I received 3 phone calls from Christa. All three just barely rang and then disconnected.

So after the 3rd attempt failed... I called her. It was not Christa making the calls but Jeremiah.

Yeah... of course by accident. But we are so close to having those precious phone conversations.

Right now our conversations consist of what does a dog say and ect. But so precious.. I cherish each call.

I had a good day. It's never the same when Christa and family can't be here to celebrate being a mother... but this is life.

I called my sister this morning to ask about the lunch plans for today. She said we are meeting at 11:15 at Ryans. I acknowledge the time, went to work and when I got to work I set the alarm on my phone so I would for sure not be late. When my alarm goes off at 11:15 I leave work drive to Ryans and as I am pulling in the restaurant parking lot my sister calls to see where I am. I tell her I just got here... it is just now 11:30. She said we were suppose to meet at 11:15.

Oh my, I am totally loosing it.

In my defense..it has been a long and agonizing week. It is May. (that's code word for work overload)

I think I am going to go work on my ribbon organization. That will make me feel better.

Colored pencil class..

Quickly learned to draw a small image for colored pencils. Hand gets very tired due to the scrubbing you have to do to bring out the wax in the colors. Much different than pencil.

Lots of layers of colors and then scrub. You don't know what you have until you scrub, then it is really to late to fix because it doesn't erase..

Doesn't look like much color but there was lots of layering of colors.
July we are continuing with colored pencils.

After that back to pencil to do animal portraits. (In my head I was saying, "What! ! Whos idea was that?" ha ha we will see..

Intermediate drawing.. lesson 1

Let me just remind you, as you can see, I cannot draw. Hence, the lessons.

Our teacher informed us that she has never taught this class that she has not had whining from her students. We did not disappoint her.

Objective of this class is to be able to look at an object (not a picture...rats) and draw and shade it. As I was struggling with my third attempt in a two hour class to put on paper what I saw she said my left side brain was trying to take over. I said, "it looks to me like no part of the brain has engaged. " She was explaining angles, said this is geometry (trouble for the home team), and measuring by holding my arm straight with one eye closed.. oh my, oh my..

It's fun but very hard for me. It's so crazy that you can see it and know what you should do but when it comes to putting it on paper I can't see it.

Oh, I was drawing a chair that was lying on its back. :)

Our beginning drawing class is complete with lesson 5. I took two class times to complete my flower. During our 5 lessons we looked at pictures or other drawings and attempted to draw that picture. It was very challenging....hard :) but fun.

After her birthday celebration she and I went to do our annual Christmas shopping for her mom. We had so much fun. After we completed our shopping we ate dinner at Rickey's. She was very happy they served omelets since she doesn't care for mexican food that much. Then it was back to my house where she wrapped her mom's presents.
She got a knitting kit for her birthday and wanted me to teach her how to knit. The only thing I remember about knitting is knit one pearl two. So I taught her to crochet instead. She caught on so quickly and is loving it. She's going to practice for a few days ( making Daisy a scarf) and then she is going to make a scarf for her and her mom.

Spoke to Ann yesterday and she had to remind me of my monthly book club class which I totally did not remember. I just started attending the class again after being away for quite awhile.

I fortunately got an email reminder for my drawing class which is tomorrow. oops
So much for practicing. I think my teacher will be calling me her high maintenance student. :)

Ann and I have started our collection of copic markers. While Christa was here we attended a class in Tulsa on Copic 101. It is so much fun and the colors are amazing.
However, I feel a need for Copic 201.

Note to self: take notes and write on calender and for goodness sake practice.

I had an extremely horrible day today. I always try and most generally can overcome such days but this one was the worst I have had in a really long time...can't tell you how long. I was totally wiped out, mentally exhausted, when I got to class. I sat down and saw the example of what we were to draw and my first thought was...I can't draw that.

And we all know what negative thinking gets us...

So, I will try this flower again at home and see if I can do better.

Are we ever hot and tired. When we finished class tonight sweet Daisy got in the car, laid down on the seat and did not move till we got home... No barking at horses..ha ha. On the way to class tonight we saw the carriage rides downtown. I told her it was only a horse...maybe it's the first one she has ever seen.

She did better this evening. We got a little more one on one help tonight which was good for both of us. They are teaching us things that I wouldn't have ever thought of.

To graduate she has to sit and stay for one minute and lay down and stay for two minutes.

Tomorrow...practice...practice....practice

oh boy...was tonight a challenge. Miss Daisy, decided she was not going to participate in the class exercises. We did lots of walking and turning or I should say most all the other dogs did lots of walking and turning. Daisy dug in and refused.

She also did not like the other dogs tonight...even barked at them which is unusual for her.
Sit and stay...this was pretty much it for us this evening. lol

Above are just a few of the dogs in our beginner class. Let me just go on record by saying...Daisy has it much easier than me! Sit, Walk, Stay, get treats and lots of praise. Me! ! I can't hear my instructor, it is hot, lots of bending over, pulling up on her neck and pushing down on bottom to get her to sit. ha ha Sounds like I am complaining. Just kidding. It was fun and she did great for our first class. She was very timid, stayed right by my side and didn't bark at any of the other dogs.

8am to 6am = 22 long hours of work = 17,000 cattle sold

6am to 9:30 am = a small break with a couple of hours of sleep.

9:30 am to 3:30 = 6 more hours of work

total 28 hours of work in a 31 1/2 hour time span.

thankful this doesn't happen every week...it has not gotten easier over the years to work

those kind of hours. My body/back actually rejects that amount of hours sitting in a chair leaning over a desk. However, I am THANKFUL to have a job.

A week ago Tuesday my sister called me and said she rescued a dog. She said she was just roaming around in the country out by where she works. She opened the car door and the dog jumped in, got in the back seat, curled up and went to sleep....awww. Anyway, I have been contemplating with the idea of getting a dog for a year or so now. Lots of people have been trying to help me find the perfect one. When she called me and said it was a dachshund I pretty much said okay. Because of Christa and Paul's little iPod that I have become so attached to I had already given thought to the idea that I might also enjoy a dachshund.

I asked Gabrielle to help me name her and she thought Daisy would be a great name. That evening she also emailed 10 more names to choose from but I agreed with her, Daisy fit her the best.

So, I pick her up on Tuesday, took her to the vet on Wed. and Thursday we left for Memphis to visit Christa and Paul. Not knowing anything about her I was concerned and nervous about the four day weekend. She didn't know her name but she did know come and no. It went pretty well. Daisy is the laid back one, mostly likes to just sleep and iPod is the playful one. It is so great how our dogs fit our home style so perfectly.

Have you ever had a tooth filled on your front teeth? If you have you know how painful it is to receive the deadening shot! ! Today was my first to have a tooth filled with no shot. It's true.
I went in to have a filling on a front tooth and was doing some whining, in a cheery way, about the shot.
He took a look at it and thought he could fill it with out the shot and no pain. I told him I had really fast reflexes.
Low and behold, he did it! ! ! and I left his office one happy girl.

Well, where should I start... I have had a very interesting week technology wise. I got the dreaded message 'disk failure' on my computer. Not to worried because all of my contacts and scrapbook cataloging is also stored on my Palm Zire. I knew I was going to loose some pictures, but didn't think it would be 2 years worth. I usually back up my pictures at the end of each year...hum, guess I forgot.

After turning my computer off and on many times hoping it would eventually start working I got my palm...turned it on and the battery was dead, charged it and was positive all info would be intact.....wrong again... What are the odds I could loose info on both in the same week?

My computer guy confirmed that it was broken and he could not retrieve the info.

There are companies that specialize in that service. Must be a time consuming job or their equipment is extremely expensive, or they know companies will pay the price because they charge 100.00 to assess it and then 300-700.00 and up depending on what they can retrieve.

I bought my computer in '03 and never had a bit of trouble with it. My computer guys last year told me a person should upgrade every 3-5 years. Point proved..

It is just one of those items that I think should last forever.

My phone contract was up in Aug. so I upgraded to the iPhone. I like everything about it except for the touch screen when making a call. I can't tell you how many times I have dialed the person above or below the person I was actually trying to call due to a bump in the road or an unsteady hand. So, you know where this is going don't you? I went to the Apple store yesterday and sat in on the 'getting started class'. So when I left the store with my newly purchased iMac I could at least do a few things on it.

It is a very nice machine. And I am sure I am going to enjoy it but I have a lot to learn.

Now for the exciting news.. Christa, Paul and iPod are coming home this week for the week.

Maybe I will get some one-on-one time with them since they are both Mac lovers.

That would definitely help the learning curve.

don't tell anyone that I just bought my first hand held magnifying glass...
Isn't it just crazy how they are writing in such small print these days. The little red warning labels on a prescription bottle....impossible, or the ingredients label on a food item.
I just had my eyes checked and didn't need new glasses. Oh, maybe I should wear my glasses..okay got it...ha ha

Lots and lots of things going on in life now...huh
I have concerns for many friends and family about their jobs or lack of jobs.
Our President and our elected officials.
I am sure I am not the first one to say it... but, we are in deep doo doo.

"State Farm total loss"....yep, that's what I heard when I returned a call to State Farm today. When I heard the recording I hung up and redialed... and yes, they said it again.

I am bummed...I liked that car. I now have a limited $ amount to replace my car. Please be praying because I can't afford a car payment right now.

I know God is in control and everything will be fine.
However, I am on somewhat of a time schedule now because I have to return the rental car on Wed...

I guess now could be a good time to take one of the new deductions we get from the bail out...ride your bike to work! ! ! That's not even funny..especially since I have a stiff neck, aching back and sore knee...can't believe I said it...sorry

I woke up in tears in the middle of the night praying....Lord, please don't let them total my car. I have a '99 Honda CRV, which I bought used and made my final payment last month. From my naked eye, the damage didn't look to serious on my car. Front and rear damage, I was the cream center in the sandwich. I am hoping, being a CRV with the tire on the back could have helped prevent some serious damage to my car. The lady in front of me and I were slowing down for the car in front of her, that was waiting to turn into an addition on NW 122 and Meridian area, when the car from behind was unfortunately...not paying attention. I saw her coming, like a speeding bullet, but there was nothing I could do. I felt really sorry for her. She was walking around in unbelief that she had hit me.

Thankfully, praise the Lord... no trips to the hospital for the 3 of us. I am fine, sore..to the touch..which you can imagine. Everything that hit something is bruising this morning. My knee, that hit the dash, my chest, from the seat belt which kept me from hitting the window, and the back of my head and back from the whip lash. Mary, who came to pick me up from the wreck and take me to get a rental car (....thank you....I love you...) said my head bent the head rest.

I was on my way to pick Gabrielle up from day care to spend some time with her. I am most thankful she wasn't in the car with me yet.

The silver lining in it all..no one was seriously hurt...she has good insurance...

Mary, Gabrielle and I went to the Maze out by Hydro Sat. It was a windy but beautiful day to be in the country.

The girls are ready to head into the corn field. They give you a list of questions and at certain points along the path if you get the answers correct it can help you to make the correct turns and get you to the end much quicker.. So, I said lets review the questions before you start... I want you all to come out before it gets dark.(click on picture to read sign)

sweet, sweet iPod. He has been loved, for sure. he loves to sit on my lap. however, i have had to enforce the 'no chicken rule' when he's on my lap. it's a little to slobbery for me. he just melts my heart when he lays on his back in my arms...just like a baby.

he is enjoying a moment outside in the warm sunshine with his favorite toy...the chicken.

gabrielle was getting ready to throw the ball and he just couldn't wait. besides being a speedster he is a jumper as well. i think he forgets that he is a dachshund.

i took the little guy to work with me the other day. I keep him on his leash because he doesn't like to stay in one place. he is very curious and likes to bark when people come in. well, a friend came in to show me her grandbaby and iPod leaps toward her (little did i know he had been chewing on his leash...you know where this is going don't you?). the leash breaks and he is barking uncontrollably and jumping on her leg. the baby almost in tears. i get him under control. whewwwwwww, kind of funny now. he did get some time out for that one. and i got to buy him a new leash.

i so love little iPod. what a joy he is! ! !

remember my chair that I took to retreat. the one that broke. well, it has been miraculously healed. and I am so thankful...

now, if my vcr could receive the same healing i would be oh so grateful.

the saddest news of all... i dropped my camera this morning trying to take a picture of my new fall table arrangement for my post today. as you can see, no picture.. maybe it is time to upgrade to a new camera. sure wasn't planning on that.

pre-senior

yep, that's me a pre-senior.... just a pup...

today I got to choose an item from the senior citizens section of the menu at IHOP. that was great fun. i felt special.

....and the first of the month i joined my first senior citizens club...
oklahoma retired citizens travel club.. now that is going to be a blast. except, i quickly learned i will have to continue working to be able to afford some of their trips.

now if my knee would just stop hurting.. what could possibly be worse than being a pre-senior, join a travel club and have an aching knee. =:')

I will try and give you a brief summary and itinerary for the next two weeks for Paul, Christa, and Duke from Nations Church in Memphis, Robert from Little Rock who is representing Churches Together, and Jerrod and Mike from Lakeland, Tn..

They leave Memphis 9:40 am Thurs and arrive Entebbe, Uganda 8:15pm on Fri (Uganda time) (12:00 pm central time). I have figured that is approx 26 hours of travel with 2 short stops one in Detroit and one in Amsterdam.

They will then go to the Kampala area, the capital of Uganda, where they will be serving with the Watoto World Conference. They are an organization that cares for orphan children in Uganda, Africa.

The second week they will be joining churches in the Fort Portal area where they will be leading a conference for 2000 pastors. I am sure God has great plans for them and all those He puts in their path for the next two weeks. Please keep them in your prayers daily.

Last night I actually got to have a video conversation with Christa and Paul. They use Skype.com to talk for free. So I loaded the program on my computer and bought a web cam. Amazing... They had to help me with one of the settings but I say again, it was amazing. They have a mac so their cam is built into their lap top. Christa was walking around their house with her lap top showing me stuff she was doing and what she was packing for the trip. It was awesome to actually talk with no phone to your ear and see their beautiful faces. It brought so much joy to me.
So now we will get to have a video talk while they are on their trip. The only slight problem will be the time difference. That's no problem for a stepper...

Sunday after the retreat I met Christa and Paul in Ft. Smith, Ar. to pick up iPod. I get to spend a few weeks with the little speedster podster. Christa and Paul are leaving for Africa on Thursday. More about that tomorrow.
It was really great to get a hug and to spend an hour with them before heading back to OKC.

On the drive home it was cool to see the sun going down in front of me and the moon coming up behind me. Amazing

It's the place to be! Scrapbookin' is the life for me!

Our fall scrapbookin' retreat at Canyon Camp this past weekend was wonderful.

Ann, Connie, and I had 43 hours of uninterrupted cropping/card making time. We of course slept, ate and had fun visiting. It was fantastic.

I even took my comfy office chair from home. It is the tall grey one in the picture. It wasn't that tall when I started. I was trying to adjust the height and it adjusted alright...in the up position.
However, when I sat down, it went to the low position. Hi..low...hi...low...Pretty funny. I was still very thankful to have it. It is amazing how much we lean forward to work. So it was great to have it to support my back during breaks.

Jennifer and the ladies entertained us with the cute Green Acres song with lyrics for scrapbooking.
They are the best! ! !

When Christa was home last week she went to clogging class with me.
She hasn't clogged since 6th or 7th grade(?).
It was great fun. Everyone asked her to move back here so she could join the group.

The Hansen's Celebrate Family....

For as long as I can remember every Labor Day Weekend the Hansen family celebrates family with a reunion.

I am so thankful for the blessing of growing up in this family. My grandparents on both sides loved being with their family every chance they got. So as a child we had many holiday gatherings and a reunion every year. This year there was approx. 46 that could attend. We had several that came a pretty far distance, Cousin Chris and his wife came from Az. and Uncle Donald, JoAnn and Kurt came from Garden City, Ks., and Christa came in from Memphis.

I am at the mercy of my family for pictures this year. Yes, I forgot my camera. How did that happen you ask? Well, it just did...

Some of us attended church at my cousin Larry's church. He is the most amazing piano player in the world...and I am not kidding. It was a great service.

We played a new game, Phase 10. I think it is our new favorite game. I think she was a little distracted by the air flow and the I Love Lucy show that was on tv which helpled my score.

It really wasn't cold in my house. ha ha.

We were sitting under a ceiling fan and we both agreed it was too hot with it off.

God's favor

I was reminded today to watch for signs of God's love. So much of the time I just go through the day and am aware and thankful for the nice things people do for me. But, really not acknowledging that it is God blessing me with his love and favor.

So I challenge you to record all the little things that God does for you. Watch for signs of God's love.
Send me a sign of your favor. Psalm 87:17.. and don't let me miss it.

***When I got home from work today Mr. Banks, my lawn man, had been here and mowed my grass. He always leaves a bill in my mail box. Today on the bill he wrote, "I deserve a break today" and reduced the fee by $5.00.***

Christmas in July

These ladies and I have been scrapbooking/card making together for 5-6 years. It is so wonderful that we can still get together.
We met at Scrapbooks from the Heart where we took classes and not only grew in knowledge of scrapbooking but have developed some wonderful friendships. I love you girls.
Anyway, tonight was our first annual Christmas in July card making event. We each designed a card and brought the supplies for everyone to make 3. So we each left with 24 cards. It was great fun... Thanks Daisy for the great idea and for being our hostess... Below are the cards I came home with.
